Inaugural Hall Of Fame
Class
April 26, 2011 - It is with
great honor and respect that the Miami-Dade Mets announce
the inaugural class of the Miami-Dade Mets Hall Of Fame.
The players were chosen on a number of factors including
statistics, longevity and most of all, impact on the
Miami-Dade Mets, its franchise and its history. The
inaugural class is made up of three distinctly different
individuals, but at the same time three individuals with one
similar passion, baseball.
The
Miami-Dade Mets are honored to announce Dean Cosme, Rolando
Gonzalez and Elis Rodriguez are the inaugural class of the
Miami-Dade Mets Hall Of Fame. No three players had
more of an impact on the Miami-Dade Mets than Dean, Roly and
Elis. Check out more on the Hall Of Fame Page.
Farewell To An
Amazin' Era
March 20, 2007 -
Well this isn't the way I had envisioned this in my mind, but I didn't
have much of a choice. For the better part of the last two months
I haven't had a chance to update the site to finalize the end of the
FALL 2006 season or update the readers of this site to the latest
happenings of the Miami-Dade Mets. So I will be getting to that
soon. It may not be as soon as I want it to be but it will be
soon.
First things first, the FALL 2006 became the
final season for the Miami-Dade Mets for more reasons than one.
The team in the latest phase, had run it's course. The amazing
amount of tension that permeated the team throughout the season was
incredibly thick and unhealthy. The entire season was played as
thought the bottom would fall out at any time. Because of that,
there were going to be wholesale changes had the team continued into the
SPRING 2007 season. Additionally, as the season progressed, it was
evident that change was necessary. From defensive woes, to
offensive lapses to personality conflicts. It was all there.
Those things didn't lead to the tension. Other, more personal
things led to the tension.
The final reason for the FALL 2006 season
being the last one for the Miami-Dade Mets is that my new wife and I
have decided, after many long and arduous hours of thought and
perspective, to move to Houston, Texas this Spring thus bringing my
retirement from the South Florida Baseball League retroactive to the end
of the FALL 2006 season.
This announcement brings to an end an
incredible era in my life that I will cherish deeply for as long as I
live. After 15 years and 29 seasons, I've had a long baseball
journey. I've been there since the beginning of the SFBL and three years
after its inception I came to join the ranks of management by taking
over the Miami Twins. After 22 seasons it never became old to
start a new season with the anticipation of a championship and the
desire to show what you still have each and every Sunday.
Over the years I've had the pleasure to play
with some of the most talented players to pass thru the SFBL. I
would like to thank all the players that have played for me throughout
the years. Without you, there would never have been any Miami
Twins, Miami Mets, Kendall Mets or Miami-Dade Mets.
To Rolando Gonzalez, you are an amazingly
gifted player. Your intensity was always there and you made sure
everyone was there with you.
To Elis Rodriguez, you brought with you
unmistakable swagger and confidence. Your leadership was
unquestioned and your friendship is valued.
To Sal Trancucci, Fred Krochmal, Ken Mende,
Miguel Montilla, Rick Martinez, Phil Laufman, Javier Mariscal, Miguel
Ramos, Anwar Lopez, Ihosvanny Garciga, Luis Soto, Carlos Ruiz, Jose
Melendez, Ruben Castillo, Cedric Bess, Eddie Hernandez, Rich Alvarez,
Humberto Marroquin, Jose Martinez, Michael Pichardo (Championship
Winning Pitcher), Carlos Yedo, Enrique Tamayo, Joe Ramirez (Championship
Winning Hit), Russ Brick, and Bengie Seda. All of you hold a special
place in my heart and will never be forgotten.
To those who I did not mention, your service
to my teams has been invaluable. Almost every Sunday for 11 1/2
years you all gave your time to me to play a child's game that will
forever remind us of what it was like to be kids on the sandlot. I
cannot be more appreciative.
Many of you have been there for just one
season. Many of you have been there for many seasons and have
enjoyed success along with struggle. Many of you were the main
cogs in my lineups week in and week out. Without any of you our
legacy would not have taken place. Until we meet on the field of
dreams once again, I humbly thank you.
